OS X Slow

I know this may sound weird, but OS X has become slow. i.e. apps take a long time to open when OS X is started. Doing a bit of googling suggests that the caches folder is to blame. Now I would like to know what is safe to delete, as I dont just want to start deleting stuff and then finding im faced with a possible re install

Try Yasu and tell it to delete your caches. It will leave anything it's not safe to delete.

Never heard of it...but downloading it now, my MBP isn't running slow, but it can't hurt for a little tuneup :)

I found the /Users/Library/Caches folder to be huge

I ran YASU last night and told the machine to turn off afterwards, and I haven't used it yet today, so I'll see if theres any improvements later.

As an aside... How are you finding your battery life on your MBP MadGamer? Just curious because I'm making a conscious effort where possible to use it on battery rather than power, and its lasting about 5-6hours (moderate use, with wifi switched on - about 3/4 hours if I'm watching videos etc)

Im finding it ok, but not great on battery power, but then its had quite a lot of use and charges over 14months. I have an AppleCare protection plan until 2012, so might get the genius bar at my local Apple store to take a look at the battery for me

I've had mine since June 2009 and it still has 99% health, and gets a full cycle at least once a week. I don't have a protection plan though :(

Actually, Apple say the battery should be charged little and often, but if you don't do that, it should be completed discharged and recharged once a month.

Not discharged completely if its Li-Ion though.

They don't say that for the laptops. They do, however, for the iPhone.
