MS Office tries to install.
Like many machines of the past year or so, a trial copy of MS Office was on the HD when I bought it.
I immediately removed it through Control panel, and all seemed well. But... Now when I start just one particular program (DVDflick) Windows installer starts at the same time and tries to install MS Office. If I ignore it and don't click "cancel" it starts moaning that it can't find the installer MSI file. Any ideas how to permanently kill it? |
Re: MS Office tries to install.
Try looking in "My Documents", in the menu bar click on "Tools > Folder Options > File Types" and see if any of the extention in there relate to DVDflick try and load a program that office needs.
Which could explain why MS Office is trying to loading. |
Re: MS Office tries to install.
Do a search, files & folders for the offender,

DFPROJ is associated with DVDflick All file types for MsWord, Office or Excel are associated with Unknown Application |
Re: MS Office tries to install.
I've seen this prob a few times over the years. It is sometimes cured by just following the install through, it doesn't install anything...it just fails...but does seem to stop it trying.
Last time I saw it was with Partition magic so its not just happening with DVDflick. |
Re: MS Office tries to install.
Tried the Windows Installation cleanup utility http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows...leanUp_Utility . It has been discontinued but iv`e used it recently on Java and ATI .msi problems and it`s worked.
Might be worth a shot to see if reg entries are left over causing these shenanigans. If it shows nowt just uninstall it ;) |
Re: MS Office tries to install.
I tried WICF but no sign of any Office bits in it list .
A quick scan through the registry found hundreds of references to Office. Process Monitor Did spot that msiexec was trying to run an installer in HKLM so dug deeper and found a whole group of MSOffice things... so after backing up the reg I deleted the lot. The nags are now gone! There is a slight flash of something trying to get to the screen, so there must be more remnants in there somewhere... will dig again. |
