Frequent internet drop-outs
 

I am on virgin media internet (10mb) and the speed seems to be fine but i have two issues that i currently cannot resolve and im wondering if you guys could help with the solutions to.

1. My internet seems to occasionally have latency issues, running speed tests showed that the speed would be between 8-10 (as i would expect) however the ping should be relativly low but it sometimes can peak over 700ms causing a rediculous amount of lag not just in gaming but also for loading webpages (they time-out). This issue seems to appear over my computer my brothers and my fathers (all wireless however im not sure if this is the issue). This maybe a case of a issue Virgins side, however id like to clear it up

2. This next problem is the more important problem to me as it really only effects my computer. The issue is frequent drop-outs from the internet. The connection remains connected but i get errors like, "Cannot connect to the DNS" which seems to be an issue my end however my computer and network card is by far the best in the house.

My router is a D-Link DIR-615 and my network card is a Linksys WMP600N wireless-N PCI adapter with dual band.

im not sure which information you may need to help solve these issues so please just ask for more information and i will supply it

1) If they're all connected wirelessly:
-Do you have any other wireless devices that could be interfering. Try setting your router to use a different wireless channel (preferably one several channels away from the one it's currently using).
-How strong is the signal? You may need to be closer to the router for it to work reliably.
-Try connecting one of the computers using an ethernet cable and seeing whether the problem persists.
2) You are currently using OpenDNS. Try setting your DNS settings to automatic, or try different DNS servers (Google, for example, have public DNS servers at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). Instructions on how to do this: http://www.mediacollege.com/computer/network/dns.html

If you have set static IP's try disabling the routers DHCP.
