Channel 4 sign language
Last night I watched a film I'd recorded recently via V+box, It was "The Cat's Meow" on Channel 4 but it was rather spoiled by the sign language included very obtrusivly on the right of the screen.
It's the first time I've had this appear in a film, is there any way to stop this appearing? I know some may be glad to have this service but the ability to turn it off would be good. |

It must have been late or I would have watched live.

Re: Channel 4 sign language
I need to say that i think that this thread is a load of .
I have a AUTISTIC child who is learning sign langauge to communicate ( due to limited langauge capabilities ). Some of my friends when i went to school were deaf so if you think that it is ok to start a thread about sign langaunge, what is going to be next a thread about AUDIO DESCRIPTIVE channels FOR THE blind. If you feel that strongly about try contacting OFCOM, THE DISABILITIES DISCRIMINATIN BOARD and any others that you are able to think about. RANT OVER |

I don't think you can compare the audio description (with regards to 'getting in the way') as you can with the sigh language. You can turn the audio description off after all.

If had ment to qupte you directly I would have - as I didn't you should realise that I was making a statement, not quoting you. edit - The point is I can see why the sign language can be frustrating to users and I can see why the audio description can be, but you can't compare the two as one can be removed while the other can't. You do not need to apologise to me. |

Re: Channel 4 sign language
It would be great if there was a technical answer to this question. Like with subtitles either switch it on or off as a separate stream feed:erm:

Re: Channel 4 sign language
The technical answer is you can't turn signing off.
Because of the impact on viewers who don't require signing, signed programmes tend to be limited either to late night, or when a non-signed simulcast alternative is available on another channel. There's loads more info on the Ofcom website for those who are interested. |
Re: Channel 4 sign language
completely off topic, but my step son when he was little asked us why that person danced in the corner of hollyoaks on a sunday - bless him.
