Super hd

I have been thinking about this for a bit and just have to wonder that what would SKY have to do to try and compete with this. The reason behind my thinking is that after watching the BBC CLICK programme that got on about the super hd broadcast of the CHARLITANS to JAPAN, they said that they would need at least 350mb speeds and SKY a long way off from this.

As i am not fully up on this spec and most technology i would like to throw this open to all and all comments.

I think it states on the BBC we could have something by 2020 in terms of actual TV's, they say they could have some test screens for the 2012, but I have a Panasonic with NeoPDP technology 600Hz refresh rate but still it not fast enough.

Watching Football in current HD you still get a fuzz something that is fast moving like F1 I could see problems.

So for Super Hi Vision to happen I think they would also need to ensure TV makers sort out the refresh rate.

I also saw the Click article over the weekend and was interested to see what was going on. The BBC R&D department has a history of inovation years ahead of it's time with things like Nicam, Teletext and Freeview. Even through super HD is probably 10 years away for consumers, there has to be content available when it launches and the broadcasters need to have equipment and systems in place and know how to use it. From what I've read elsewhere, the camera technology has been available for a while now, just not really put to use as there's no way to watch it!

That all said, I think it's a shame that the BBC only provides one limited channel output in 720 HD and yet is happy to promote things like this and 3D TV already. I get the feeling this was more of a publicity stunt that just happened to conicide with Sky launching it's 3D service.

As for the screen technology, I remember seeing the first demos of HD TV on Tomorrows World in the 80's, and that was on BIG CRT's at the time. In the Click article they mentioned that for resolution alone, there aren't any screens available to display the full quality image yet. Technology moves a lot faster these days and they will come. My 3 year old "state of the art" 1080p 100hz TV is testament to that.....:D

Firstly, BBC HD broadcasts in 1080i, not 720p. Secondly, BBC1 HD is launching this year. Thirdly, the BBC have to take their time with going HD, as otherwise the likes of Sky throw their teddies out of the pram and claim that as a free service the BBC is being unfair competition.

Interesting !

Just looked into the history of HD. I've found that John Logie Baird had a 600 line HD Colour system in the 1940's !

Makes for interesting reading when he believed that a 1000 line service should be the norm, along with Stereoscopic vision, but he was knocked back !

Yes it does but 1080i is worse than 720p, nobody wants interlaced
