voicemail problems

i set up my free NTL voicemail recently but its not working, when someone calls my number it doesnt switch onto voicemail after a certain length of time(automated 1571 message) but instead it just beeps. I tried CS but they told me that as far as they were concerned it was enabled and working. Any ideas?
