Pensioner takes dogs for walk......

I know it's a story from the Daily Mail but be careful how long you leave your home empty.

But not thanks to the Police or anybody else.

Not the only instance of this sort of thing. How many other times is this happening, but not making it into the national press, or is being 'censored' by certain national publications.
Man returned home to pick up wallet and discovered Romanian 'squatter' family had moved in

Well why didn't any of his neighbours just evict them..I doubt that the police would have paid anymore attention than they did the first time.I think I might have 'helped' out in a situation like that

Also the way the squatters 'fled' seems highly suspicious to me..Something very havey cavey about that if they were legitimately allowed to stay.Where did they go?

I don't think this would happen in my immediate vicinity as we all have good security in place and keep an eye on each others property but it does make me wonder about the level of security installed by local councils and housing associations.

I know any house can be broken into if one is determined enough but I would hate to live in a property as vulnerable as this pensioners was, or to have neighbours who would let this happen unchallenged.

Simple really...

The Criminal Law Act 1997 as amended by the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 gives him the status of "displaced residential occupier". All he has to do is find a Justice of Peace who will grant him this status, then he can return to his house and tell them to leave. Anyone not leaving is then committing a criminal offence and the police will arrest them.

That's the theory anyway.

Ah, the old "unanswerable" question - I don't know, how many other times is it happening? Do the press only report it occasionally, or don't you think the DM would be reporting every incident they could?

Because the incident you have linked to was reported on the BBC, and in the Mirror, Sun, Mail, etc - doesn't sound like censorship to me (with or without the quotes).
