5.1 speakers to xbox
I've bought a set of cheap 5.1 speakers from Asda and want to hook them up to my tv and xbox.
The tv is an old widescreen with 2 scarts and 3 phono (I think) plugs at the front for left/right audio and video. I have a freeview box and the xbox connected to the scarts. On the back of the subwoofer there a total of 8 phono inputs, 6 are for a dvd player and 2 are marked 'aux'. How do I set this all up so the xbox plays through the speakers? Not too bothered if I can't use all 6 speakers with it. |
Re: 5.1 speakers to xbox
I don't know the xbox too well but I don't think you can without a Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder..
The decoder will take a digital signal (normally coaxial, optical or these days from the HDMI) and will then decode the signal into it's component parts (FrontRight, FrontLeft, FrontCenter, RearRight,RearLeft and SubWoofer) each on it's own phono output and it's these 6 outputs that go to the 6 DVD inputs.. Some DVD's have these decoder/outputs built in but has the xbox? ---------- Post added at 08:29 ---------- Previous post was at 08:26 ---------- For the mean time you could connect the xbox analog (the two phone plugs) to the AUX input on the amp and it will either be dolby pro-logic or it'll fake dolby digital |

Using the left/right audio phonos from the Xbox (white & red), the best you can get is Dolby Pro Logic II. To get Dolby Digital 5.1 / DTS 5.1 from the 360 requires a receiver with an optical (TOSLINK) S/PDIF input. |
