What's involved in the role as "Access Field Technician" employed by Virgin Media ?
Can anyone tell me what "exactly" is involved in the role as a Access Field technician" employed directly by virgin Media ? Would you Dig roads ? Route cables through gardens etc ? Drill external walls ? Complete new installations ? I ahve heard various stuff from various peoepl regarding this role. Been told "contractors" do all the digging, drilling and new installs as they are paid per job. VM employees carry out servie jobs break/fix and upgrades etc. How true is this ? Also, does anyone know what hours a VM field technician does? When does Virgin Media provide the service/maintenance cover ? Sundays ? Bank Holidays ? Xmas n New Year period ? Are they closed for this part of business over the Xmas period ? Any further info regardin this role would be gratefully received. Thanks :) |

Thanks Masque, appreciate your input.
But really looking for a more personal point of view, from someone who is either in the job or has done the job. |

A Field Tech woudltn really complete any install work apart from conencting 50Mb mdoems (currently). The install teams will connect customers and do all the work inside a customers proeprty perimiter, on the other hand contract construction teams will carry out street works like digging in the footpath (up to a certain distance).
A field technician will be for service jobs and will carry out fault finding a resolution with CPE. Also, field tech's will be available throughout the year. As its a vital service provided on the frontline, I would imagine that some form of cover would be provided even on holiday periods, couldnt be specific though. Hope this helps. |
