Wall Bracket - Bolt name? speciality?

1 Attachment(s)
hi All,

I am trying to fix my TV to the wall, the screws that came with the bracket are too long, even though it came with spacers, and 2 different length screw sets.

I have measured the bolts at 18mm x 7mm (This would fit the TV) but the bolts I have are much larger in length. (See picture)

I have done a search on Ebay for these bolts but I keep coming accross M4 M5 M6 bolts, I dont know if these are speciality bolts, i basically need someone to say "You will need a ******** bolt from *******" as I dont know what im supposed to be looking for unless i wander around focus and b&q for 6 hours comparing the sizes.

can anyone help?

Cut the bolt down, then touch up the end with a file if necessary?

I'd cut them down. M7 is an unusual thread size. I've only ever came across it in cars and motorbikes.

If you don't fancy cutting them yourself you could ask at your local diy store or blacksmiths.

if you don't want to cut them put lots of washers or a nut as a spacer behind the head of the bolt

Smallest I found with a quick look are M7 x16mm

HEX top bolt

Looking at the picture, can the bracket be reversed?

Isn't it meant to be that big, so that the item gets enough airflow when mounted on a wall?

your brackets either back to front(some are reversable) or you don't have the solid spacers to match the screws provided ,your picture only shows washers not spacers ,you should have solid spacers in place of the washers and the washers go behind the bolt head

Hi all

I do have spacers yes, the solid spacers, however, using the bolt you saw in the picture, the spacer only allows a thread length of about 2mm if I use it, which is no way long enough to screw into the TV.

Also, If I used the spacer, if it let me, then the bolt would stick out more than the bracket and it wouldnt sit right on the wall.

I cant see anyother way than to buy smaller bolts, hopefully my hardware store will have some, if not, i probably have no option but to cut them down to size as some suggested.

I just wish something would go right this week, its been disaster after disaster, i think this house is cursed :dozey:

no ,you are putting the spacers in the wrong place ,the spacers go between the back of the tv and the brackets ,where you have the washers in your photo, remove the washers ,you may not need them ,in there place use the solid spacers they will fit i promise ;)

is one of those diy times when men refuse to fead the instructions :D
