is someone trying to break me?

I've viewing my router logs and there are loads of
"Unallowed access from WLAN 00-1B-2F-9E-09-90" like 10 or so a minute.

Any advice.

Just means someone tried to connect and failed.. It happens all the time..kids playing with network adaptors, or simply a wlan on auto-negotiate seeing which networks it can connect to.. Nothing to worry about

The first thing I'd do is confirm it wasn't something of mine trying to connect. It's a Netgear device, if that's of any help.

It may be somebody trying to guess your password. It's more likely something completely innocent. Providing you have a strong password and you're *not* using WEP encryption I wouldn't worry about it. A strong password is going to take somebody a looooooong time to crack, especially at ten attempts a minute. :)

If it was a hack attempt then they'd be hundreds per minute ;)

I use wpa-psk and i dont have any netgear kit. Is there a way to send them a msg to tell them to BEEP off?

Not really, just set the router to access list only that should stop any password attempts

Maybe they only have a very slow computer to do their brute-forcing. Or they're clueless enough to be trying it manually. :)

Change your SSID to "**** off hacker"? :)

Hmmm, Personally I don't broadcast my SSID

Thanks guys. I noticed my SSID was being broadcasted (i'm sure i had disabled it).

No more attempts.

Now for my next ftp question which I'll post in the relevant topic

Maybe also turn off "allow WAN ping" if the router has such an option.
