Straddling Bus
 

Imagine being overtaken by one of these. Damn clever idea if they can make it work.

Theres one way to make you take your eyes off the road :shocked: Id be more distracted by that coming overhead than I would be chatting on my mobile

i had visions of a monster truck bus driving over cars from the title :D

I can see two problems

1# It'd have to either be so big to get over trucks as to make it unstable(or only on roads where height is restricted)

2# You're placing a movable object on the carraigeway dividing line where people accidently stray onto/overtake.. It'd be carnage if someone did that at the wrong moment

It could only be used on very big wide and relatively straight roads, proably with few junctions, and no bridges. Very few places like that exist in the UK.

It's also worth remembering that the wind speed in some areas can become dangerously high. They close the Dartford Bridge to highsided vehicles anytime the windspeed goes over a certain level in case those vehicles blow over or off course.

Also, as someone noted above, there probably aren't that many roads in this country that are suitable. This bus looks like it would need a road wide enough for at least two lanes either side. It also looks like it's quite high, so it would need a road with no bridges or overhead gantries. Together, these requirements probably rule out 95% of the roads and motorways in this country.

How well would it cope in a crash? Even if the the bus itself did not crash, how would it cope if there was a crash under it? If two cars crashed, there may be fire that damages the bus. If a car hits one of the supports, how would it cope? Admittedly, it would probably be OK if that happened (the bus is large enough that the car could vapourise itself against the bus with little or no damage to the bus).

Finally, how would other drivers react to this? It would probably be slightly unnerving to see a large vehicle in your rear view mirror and apparently absorbing anything in it's path.
