sky movie channels and a pin code?

why do i have to enter a pin code evertime i go on a sky move channel? I have checked all the parental control settings and the lock is set to "cert 18" this happens on both V+ box and V HD box. I rang VM up and they didnt know what it is but ive also been told sky have told VM they have to have the lock code on.

Because sky movies has a much later watershed than the likes of the BBC etc.

Corrected for truth.

Its so Sky can show 15 and 18 rated films during the day.

Its the same on Sky.

And also because OFCOM would beat them with spikey sticks if they did not do it!

sky are so over protective, i mean a pin code on ice age at mid-day, that sucks, kids these days no more than adults so no need for the code :)

It is a OFCOM ruling, neither Sky or VM have any choice over the matter.

On Sky the PIN number box only comes up when a film is being shown outside of the traditional watershed hours. So if you were watching Ice Age via Sky it would not prompt for a PIN but if you were watching Kill Bill at 10am it would.

Virgin don't have/have not implemented the same technology and so the PIN is activated 24 hours a day, maybe it will change with the Tivo software.

my children and all grown up and living away from home - ie there are NO under 18s in my household

why can't OFCOM -

1. allow me to register my set-top box and being in an 'adult' household and allow me to turn OFF the PIN requirment

or 2. allow a 1/2 way house whereby I can turn OFF the PIN requirment for say 24 hours - it then kicks back in - and I could turn it off again

the real problem is that every time you try to change film channels - you have to put that ****ed PIN number in again and again and again

I like 'surfing' the channels up-and-down - cant do this with Movie Channels in day or early evening

and er er let me get this right - I am the one who is paying the bills for a service which is less that satisfactory ! ! !

time for the new govt to reform this old fashioned-nanny-state-way-of-treating-the-british-people ? ?

Couldn't agree more - I'm 65 and look after my parents (both in their 90s) - got VM to give them some choice but the pincode is too confusing for them. I know its not Virgin's fault but surely the nannies could offer some alternative?

Just had a look at OFCOMs website where there are plenty of places to complain about everyone else other than them! Yes Minister is alive and well. If you want to contact them about anything other than a complaint aginst a provider, you have write to them - with a stamp on the envelope - how quaint!!

I think Sky set a flag in the programming to switch the PIN request on/off... probably not given to VM or uncompatible with our software/EPG.

The only safe way for VM is to have it on from 5am-10pm.
