Have you recently added any new hardware?

Memtest does just what it says on the tin.
It tests memory.
But it won't tell you why Windows reports only 1.99 Gig.

Re: Testing RAM

memtest 86 v4.something for at least 4 hours or prime95 on blend in window

However its most likely a maths issue and nothing to worry about

I agree with Zing, it's most probably to with how the memory is counted my your PC v Windows, one will treat a kilobyte as 1024 bytes, the other as 1000 bytes. Can't remember which way round this works though.
