This is why I shop at Costco

Well we'd had our Samsung LE40B650T2 40" LCD TV since mid-May and decided we weren't entirely happy with it so took it back to Costco a few days ago. Got a cash refund on the spot and came away with a Sony KDL-40NX503 (with built in HD Freeview tuner) which we're delighted with so far. With service like this, a 90 day exchange policy, a 5 year warranty on TVs etc. and prices decent reatilers usually can't match we'll continue buying from them. :D

Nice one! There's a CostCo not far from me, just across the road from the Trafford Centre. I may nip in there to see what they have on offer.

Would I need to join as a member?

Do you not have to be a registered company like makro to join?

Nope you can be a trade member like me if you have a business or an individual member if you belong to one of a number of groups/professions as shown here:

http://www.costco.co.uk/Membership_h..._for%20Web.pdf

The Costco website is rubbish and I can't find the forms for the basic individual membership which costs just £25pa but perhaps they're trying to attract more 'executive' members......

Of course it's better to be a member but alternatively you can simply get an eligible family member/close friend to join and accompany them on your shopping trips. For several years before I joined, I used to go with one of my brothers who had a card.

Don't know how far you're talking but depending on what you're buying it might be worth a trip?..... You really can save a lot of money.

Not from Gosport to Reading. The fuel used probably wouldn't make it cost effective.:erm:

£728 inc VAT, 90 day exchange and 5 year warranty.

Other electrical items like computers, cameras, mobile phones etc. have a 2 year warranty + 90 day exchange.

Over the years I've had some spectacular deals from Costco - occasionally the prices aren't way below what you can find elsewhere but when you take into account the warranty, exchange facility, money back guarantee and overall exceptional customer service I don't think there's a much better place to buy if they've got what you want.

I can get the 603 for 663 notes but it is lacking the warranty

You mean the LED backlit KDL40EX603U like this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003BVI4D...SIN=B003BVI4D0

Bet you wouldn't be able to take it back if you decide you don't like it or have seen something better you'd like more.... ;)

TBH I have no idea what the 5 year warranty is worth and guess its value depends on who's offering it and what it covers. Not sure if Coscto had that model or the price as I wasn't looking for an LED screen. What I can say though is that for me Costco's excellent service and warranty is worth a great deal. A few years ago, when they were only offering a 3 year warranty, I took back a faulty Philips FST TV set we'd had for just under that period and got a full cash refund on the spot. The set had cost around £450 but with the refund I was able to buy something much nicer and still had cash in hand .. :D

Well I never! I've just found out that my brother has been a member for about 10 years.
