Networking Mac and PC
I have been running a home server Windows 2003, nothing fancy hosting websites, email server, media server.
I have a couple of pc`s networked and just share out folders so every computer can access certain files. However, My housemate is defecting to Apple and getting a mac. Before he gets it i want to ensure it will be able to access the shared folder in the same way. Im aware that they have different file systems and its not a simple case of plug in and go. (Ive never used a mac and havent a clue):) Has anyone already gone through this and found a simple solution? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks |

One slight annoyance with using a Mac on a Windows network is that Mac OS X creates extra files to store metadata on non-HFS filesystems. I would advise installing TinkerTool on the Mac and setting the checkbox next to "Don't create hidden .DS_Store files over a network connection" in the attached screenshot.
I'd advise installing TinkerTool anyway as it gives access to loads of hidden preferences which can normally only be accessed from the command line. |
