Advise please! Before I go out to Maplins and prove to the staff what a plank I am, can someone tell me what lead I need to get in order to connect my new stb to my home cinema system. (also samsung)

That all depends on what connectors your home cinema system has.

presumably that will enable me to hear TV through the HC system? ( Pardon my ignorance and be assured ur assistance is much appreciated)

Yep. I'm assuming you're connecting to the TV through HDMI? You'll have to change the HDMI override setting in the Audio and Video settings and you should then get sound through the HCS.
