Karate Kid 2010
Some good trailers at http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/a...arate-kid.html
Glad to see it's not actually about Karate but the vastly superior Kung Fu instead ;) :) |
Re: Karate Kid 2010
I have seen it and its good enough. However it is far to close to the original would have rather seen a whole new story

Lau Gar original here lol There was a split and I trained in both for a while. Old Jeremy used to charge to much for gradings and took to much of a cut if the fees so I think a fair few of his instructors split and started their own style. Where abouts are you? who is it you train under? |
Re: Karate Kid 2010
Shouldn't they have called this Kung Fu Kid then ;)
I think it looks ok, however I do not think it will be better than the original. Possibly its having the main character as an 11/12 yr old in stead of a 15/16 yr old teen. However we shall soon find out. |

the other local lau instructors were forbidden to talk to steve even socially. www.kuei-ling.org.uk I started in 2000 and have seen the local interest in kung fu just dive bomb to the point where theres maybe 4-5 adults training now. the interest in freestyle kickboxing and MMA has just taken over. tho I've never ever met an amateur MMA fighter who isnt just an arrogant (word not allowed here!) who disrespects the trad arts, despite the fact that MMA is a sport and traditional kung fu and the likes were developed as killing arts with no rules, bells, whistles or round fighting. |
Re: Karate Kid 2010
I trained in various styles Lau Gar which in fairness is sport Kung Fu I also did Tia Gik Koon ( can not remember the spelling) which was a spin off of Hung Gar and I later trained in Hung Gar. I also trained and fought in Full contact kickboxing. I do not club train anymore aint for a number of years but I have kept my hand in as it were . I now have my own fighting style than can easily switch from a tight defense for the more enclosed areas with good close skills locks bars throws knees and elbows and a good distance stance where I can open up with a wide guard which keeps the opponant away and use solid leg kicks and high impact hand work.

Re: Karate Kid 2010
cool, I wasnt ever interested in the sport side so I started doing stuff with my uncle who is a 5th degree with the Open Circle institute alongside people like Russell Stutley and Anthony Blades.
Along with some over seas help from Grandmaster Rich Mooney, I started to bring in the pressure points applications into the lau syllabus and thats where am headed now as I have no interest in trophys. I like the self defence stuff more we have some very successful full contact guys at Kuei-Ling, like Jamie Moore. |
