TV Shortlist

As I have mentioned in other threads, I have been contemplating a new flatscreen TV to replace teh CRT I have had for @10 years. Well I cannot dither anymore as the day before yesterday the CRT died and is hopefully now in Home Appliance heaven, though if it's going to be judged on any of the content its displayed in its lifestyle, it meight not make it through the pearly gates and be consisgned to Hell for eternity.

Anyway, I have come down to the following shortlist.

Panasonic TXP50G20B (£1060 with 5yr guarantee from Costco)
Panasonic TXP46G20B (£940 with 5yr guarantee from Costco)
Panasonic TXP42G20B (£740 with 5yr guarantee from Costco). This price is only available for the next week.
Panasonic TXP46G10B (£700 with 5yr guarantee from Costco)
Samsung LE46B650T2 (@750 from RGB Direct)
Samsung LE40C650 (@675 from RGB Direct - hopefully can be price matched at John Lewis)

The new TV will be approximately 3.7 metres away from the TV, so I have been told I can go upto 50". I normally watch a lot of sport, movies and normal TV - will probably be upgrading to Sky HD too.

So has anyone any thoughts on the above - Or are there any TVs I have overlooked with offer better value for money. I need to sort one out before the weekend.

You should really go see the TV in person.

Out of your shortlist I would go for the 50" G20.

The top 3 are the same model but different sizes;
The 4th one is last years model of the G20 and these are all plasmas.
The bottom 2 are LCDs, none of which are LED-lit.
The B650 is last years model.

If you want to go LCD route I'd choose a LED-LCD one.

But plasma route is the one I'd choose purely for the black level and shadow detail in dark scenes.

Do the Costco prices inc. VAT? (as they usually don't) - if they do, those are very good prices.

I was deciding between several 32" Panasonic Vieras.... then went to John Lewis (also 5 year warranty and exceptional deals on some models). Seeing the images made me go for a model with full HD and 100hz.. and then they gave me extra discount! Oddly for a High Street posh" store, it beat all other outlets for price.

Happy now.... and watching TV has become a pleasure again (and it'll get better once all this sport goes away...).
