Re: Boris Johnson plans wireless internet on Tube
I was excited until I read its going to be through The Cloud. Means going through their stupid, slow login pages to try and get a connection or means paying for another subscription.
Shame he can't just provide 3G GSM signal and let us go through that way. Probably costs a bit but other cities manage it. |
Re: Boris Johnson plans wireless internet on Tube
but Punky that would also mean that people will be on their phone the whole time in the tube... at least now when underground its nice and quiet (other then the noise of the train)

Re: Boris Johnson plans wireless internet on Tube
I think it would be good providing you dont have to pay extra for it, bndle it into the already mammoth ticket cost.

Yes, I know we have that risk on trains, buses and the DLR as well, but they don't have a nice confined tunnel to focus the blast back on to the train (and therefore the passengers). Monumentally stupid idea, IMO. |
Re: Boris Johnson plans wireless internet on Tube
Lets face it they cannot keep the emergency service radios working down there so why should we think they can get a wifi net running? I vote for get the communications system working properly and worry about extras afterwards. As for using the cloud, by the time you get logged in you will be at the next station.. waste of time.

Others around the world manage it. Germany has its own security problems with islamic extremism but they still have it and there hasn't been a bomb attack on the U-bahn. And their scheme is smaller, but only 2.5x smaller. The difference is that they plan and run their system properly. |
