Video Quality
When backing up a dvd into an AVI file I have a default resolution of 320x180, I always change this to its maximum of 720x576, although the output file nearly quadruples in size does it justify the picture quality or am I not really gaining that much.

Re: Video Quality
Watching 320x180 videos on a small screen (3 inch or less) can be quite acceptable. However, if you watch them on a larger screen they will appear blocky.
If you are concerned about the size of the video, I would suggest you investigate different codecs when producing the AVIs. x264 gives just about the best compression and reproduction quality available today. It does, how ever, take a while to compress the video and can require quite a powerful PC to play back (although for movies ripped and compressed from DVD, any PC should be fine). |
Re: Video Quality
I play back the video on a Tvix which I think can read x264, screens used are only 21" max

Re: Video Quality
Then you shouldn't touch the resolution of the video.
