Cat5e Ethernet Cable help
Hi,
Hoping someone can clarify what I should be getting as I am confused if it is the cross over cable or that patch one. Basically I need the cable to connect to a switch and the printer? What should I be getting? I only need about 10m is ebay the best place to buy it? Thanks |
Re: Cat5e Ethernet Cable help
Normally you will just need a standard straight wired (patch) cable.
Most modern switches are autosensing. In other words they will detect the type of cable you have and swap to the correct mode autmagically. In that case you could use either straight or crossover. You occasionally need a cross over cable if you are connecting one switch to another, or trying to connect one computer to another without a switch or other device betweeen them. |

Re: Cat5e Ethernet Cable help
Switch/hub/Router to a printer/PC/Console should be a straight cable (hold the plugs up side by side and the color/pin combination should be identical
Switch/Hub/Routerto Switch/Hub/Router or PC to PC should have some of the colors swapped over (I think on 4 pins) |
