Printer fun

My pc is running Win7 Ultimate with a wired printer. The OH has a laptop with XP and we're both on a wireless connection.

How can we set things up so that she can use the printer while it's still plugged in to mine?

You could use Network Magic program

http://www.purenetworks.com/product/...s-features.php

but as you can see it isn't a free/cheap option.

I've set it up to be sharing in Win7 but when I add a new printer in XP and select the option for one on a home network I have to specify an address - how can I work that out?

Re: Printer fun

on the XP machine, go to Start > Run and type;

\\MachineNamePrinterIsOn

and hit return. this will list the available shared printers, files and folders on your windows 7 machine. right click the printer and select 'Connect'. Alternatively, on the Windows 7 machine, click the start orb and type CMD and hit return. then type ipconfig and make a note of the machines IP address (probably along the lines of 192.168.xxx.xxx). then go to the XP box, go to Run and type;

\\IPaddress

and hit return - you will get the shared printers, files and folders on the XP box. right click the printer and select 'Connect'. remember that the W7 machine will need to be switched on in order for other devices to print to it's local printer.

it's all in the links I supplied earlier.

When you start the 'add printer' routine you should have the option to browse for a printer. Does that not show the printer on your win7 machine?
