Apple in shafting-the-people-that-make-them-rich shock.

They're at it again.

http://www.macstories.net/news/steve...-own-desktops/

You have to wonder

1. Why anyone bothers investing time and money devdeloping for their platform

2. How they regularly abuse their position yet none seems to care.

because no matter what they do people will just love Apple.

Their products have been tested and often their are better alternatives but the fanboy will always buy an Apple product . Some people appear to defend them with theor very soul lol

Only one small problem with this article that is being passed around as truth: My Frame 1.2 is in the app store right now!

The app is still on the App Store. It’s just depressing viral marketing.

Because they mostly make a lot of money. If they are not the ones being rejected of course. Some Mac Developers much as Panic are not submitting anything to the store however because of their position.

Because it's not anti-competitive. A lot of platform holders decide who goes on their platform. It would be more worrying if iPhone OS was on many platforms and a de-facto standard and they started removing apps that compete with their core business (such as web browsers).

They suffer when developers refuse to develop for such a platform though.

Such tribalism is exactly the type of thing that causes competitors to underestimate the impact Apple can have when it enters a new market, like it did with the iPod, like it did with the iPhone.

Better is a subjective term and whilst it is certainly true you can almost always find a better specced item at a lower price than Apple's offerings it doesn't mean it's better. The quality of execution from Apple, from the UI, the marketing, the 'feel' and build quality of devices and all the attention to small details are a big reason Apple do well.

You can dismiss that as Apple Fanboyism but look at the success of Apple's products. It's clearly not limited to Apple fans buying them.

Seriously you think that buying a product that is three times the price of any competing product ISN'T fanboyism? :erm:

No, Look how successful the iPod and iPhone have been. You can't accuse all of them of being fanboys.

Good for them but Apple are sitting on a massive pile of cash. iPods, iPhones and now iPads are very successful. There is a reason other than fanboyism that they sell well.

Its choice at the end of the day, Macs are normally better for music makers and graphic designers, just choice at the end of the day.

if you read the correct tuts and build a machine using compatible parts you can build and Mac and PC in one a lot cheaper than buying a Mac. Ive had OSX on both AMD and Intel based machines and since Macs are now built around Intel there is no hardware difference anymore

Again. Better is a subjective term. The hardware design and UI designs are two areas where it becomes even more subjective.

I don't see the relevance anyway since, as I mentioned, the success of Apple products suggests their market has outgrown the niche following they had before and you cannot presume that all that has happened is that all these new customers are also fanboys. Which is a stupid term anyway used to dismiss people without reason.

I wasnt saying new customers are fanboys ;)
