Storing XP updates?
Hi Guys,
Is there any way to back up the WinXP updates from the Microsoft website? I know that one day soon MS will stop support for XP but my mate is happy with it and was wondering if the updates could be stored on a disc and used after a reformat instead of MS UPDATE? Cheers. |
Re: Storing XP updates?
All updates are downloadable as a KB*.* just look at the KB number on the installed updates list in add/remove programs and then just download the update from microsft using the KB number.

Re: Storing XP updates?
I think you can download each update individually from the Microsoft site.
The problem is though that as far as I'm aware some updates vary depending what order you install them and what other programs you have installed. For instance if you start your install from SP2 you will get one set of updates, if you go from SP3 another set. Then it depends whether you've installed IE7 or IE8, updated Windows Media Player etc Hopefully Microsoft will issue a final security rollup file when the support ends |
Re: Storing XP updates?
Yep, you can do this, it's how WSUS works(Windows Software Update Services). It dowloads updates and stores them locally.
Also, have a look at Autopatcher: http://www.autopatcher.com/whatsautopatcher/ |
