No service abroad.

My wife is currently in Paphos, Cyprus and is getting a "No service available" message on her Samsung Tocco. According to the Virgin mobile website, the area has excellent coverage and the phone should have found the vodafone network automatically. We are on a pay monthly contract.

Any help much appreciated.

Depends on the firmware. Mine gets excellent reception where others fail.
Let me run through the phones I have and their reception...

Nokia 7650 - Mediocre
Nokia 5210 - meh, but it was free and does what it's used for
Motorola V3 - good reception, custom firmware
Samsung E250 - POS
Samsung SGH-F480 Tocco - excellent, shame it doesn't have the 3 firmware and I can't find 3 firmware to flash it with.
HTC TyTn II - excellent, good all rounder, not good battery life, but better than the
Toshiba TG01 - Could have been an iphone killer, rubbish battery life kills it though, good reception and 1 GHz CPU rocks
Nokia E63 - excellent for what I use it for. superb reception, even with push email it lasts 3-4 days per charge
