another case of media hype.?

sky link

well in the runnup to the world cup heres the first council demanding that st george flags be taken down

personnally i think this woman went waaay over the top and i think the council is right

Nottingham City Council is standing by its decision to take the flags down.
A spokesman said it was illegal to attach anything to lampposts without prior permission and there were also "health and safety implications".

oh and by the way she's very tearfull

Mrs Carnelley still has 16 England flags on the outside of her home and a number of smaller ones in plant pots.

I don't understand why she put the flags up? We know what country we are in and England aren't even playing there

If that's all that is upsetting her she's doing very well. Her house looks stupid with all the flags on it.

iknow .if they were that overzealous they would have made her take those down citing some obscure planning regs

Re: another case of media hype.?

If those flags that were on the poles fell on someone and hurt them it would be a different story and I wonder would she be running to the press then with the strory

well if she had asked the councils permission amd followed all relavent 'elf 'n safety then she may have got away with it;) ,or as the title suggests is this story just the media blowing it up into something it wasn't because it involved a few st georges' cross flags being removed from lamp posts ,and given the other flags she was allowed to keep up i don't think she was hard done by

Call me unpatriotic but her house looks ridiculous.

This miraculously discovered patriotism around World Cup time makes me want to vomit to be honest. We're hosting the Olympics in two years, that is worth getting a sense of national pride running. We just won the 20:20 world champs and most people don't care. It's nothing to do with national pride it's just the usual addiction to kicking the pig skin.

World Cup, meh, if we're lucky the team will do a Viagra act and manage to achieve a semi before failing to score.

Thank god Ireland is not in the world cup as we would probably have the same stupid thing going on

I'm normally fairly critical of H&S laws and their enforcement in this country but they are right here. We can't just everyone stringing whatever they want to lamposts

She must have thought she was above the law and could do what she wanted

The council have apologised and she gets to keep the flags flying: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/n...re/8691257.stm

Yep but there is still a situation where pubs etc are being warned by Police that they should not allow people in who are wearing Football shirts during the Cup as it might cause tension and upset.... This is only being advised in certain areas but for pitys sake what next??

Hopefully a roll back of the last authoritarian 13 years and we all get treated like grown ups again, so long as we act maturely enough to earn being treated like grown ups.

I emphasise the last phrase, right or wrong there's a reputation there.
