Messages not being deleted from server
Recently a friend who also has a blueyonder e-mail address asked if I'd looked at my e-mail recently using web mail. He claimed that all his old e-mails were still listed (He uses Thunderbird). As I use Outlook Express all the time, I couldn't tell, but when I looked via web mail just now, every e-mail back to the beginning of January is there.
The "Leave a copy of messages on server" box in my Outlook Express accounts advanced properties tab is unchecked, so I assumed that it would be deleting the messages as they were downloaded, but apparently not. Is this correct or am I missing a trick somewhere? |
Re: Messages not being deleted from server
If you want POP connections to download and not leave a copy on the server I believe you now have to set that in the POP settings after loggng in to Webmail. The server doesn't work in the conventional POP way which would delete unless requested not to.
I assume this is a legacy of bolting POP functionality on to a webmail service rather than building a POP service. |

Re: Messages not being deleted from server
Thanks for the information. I've now set the POP setings to delete messages after they are downloaded, so I will see what happens.
