Cannot connect the Internet after fresh XP install (Drivers are installed)
Hi as the title suggests I am having problems with an old PC im planning to sell, in that it will not connect to the internet via the onboard LAN (Realtek RTL8110 Gigabit Ethernet). I reinstalled XP on it, installed the network card driver plugged the the cable in and it fails to acquire and IP address from the router stating limited or no connectivity. I can assign a static IP, but it will still not connect to the net, it sends packets but does not recieve any, I have tried a different network card and ethernet cable but no avail. I connect the router via homeplugs.
Any ideas? TIA |

Just to confirm you are connecting it to a router and not a modem. If a modem you would need to reboot it.

I assume you have power cycled the router?

Is there any possibility of plugging the PC straight in to the router. |

Everything has been power cycled, it is just this one PC that does not want to connect the net I have tried other PCs and they have connect to the net fine, no encryption on the homeplugs.

Is your network card falling back to an APIPA(169.254.0.x) address when DHCP fails? It should do BTW.

Yes it gets a 169 IP.
