Wake on LAN through router

Hi guys,

I tried to setup up my PC for wake on LAN expecting it to be a simple job, but couldn't get it to work... after some Googling, I realise that although my router is forwarding the relevant port the IP I want to wake, it doesn't work because the computer I want to wake doesn't technically have an IP because it's off.

I then discover the broadcast ip, such as 192.168.0.255 and thought that would do it, but my Sitecom 300N Gigabit router won't let me forward ports to an IP ending in 255.

I'm not at a loss, but I'm sure there must be a way to get it to work!

Can anyone help - or is it really not possible?

Cheers,

pk

Still no joy :(

Can't figure out where it's going wrong - is there anyway to tell if you router is getting the WOL command?

Configure the router's log to record events of this type. Make a note of the public IP that your sending the WOL packet from, and see if it appears in the logs.

You could also run wireshark from a PC on your network and look for the WOL packet from that.

pk,

did you ever get it to work?

I have the exact same issue and having been researching for a while now without any luck. Am about to give up the idea of WoL for now :s
