Free Vbox offerred - what's the catch?

I presently have a basic telephone and broadband M package with Virgin.

I've had an analogue TV box for a number of years, but this became defunct when the area went digital. I didn't ask Virgin to upgrade to digital TV as I now have a Freesat PVR.

However, I had a call from Virgin today offering to give me (and install) a Vbox for free and also upgrade my Broadand speed at the same time. When questioned the guy insists it's totally free. The only catch I could see was that I will then be committed to staying with Virgin for a further year.

I can't help but think that there must be some other sort of catch I am missing. I can't see why Virgin would go out of their way to give me something for free. I said OK, but unfortunately, apart from the phone call, all I have is a generic email thanking me for wanting to upgrade - nothing in writing about the upgrade details or any contact number.

Has anyone else come across this offer?

What exactly is a Vbox? Is this just a normal non-pvr Virgin box? I was told it offers more channnels that Freesat. Does it offer on-demand TV/Movies or HD?

Any info much appreciated.

It's free... no catch except your new 12 month contract. You will get access to Catch Up TV VOD, and pay per view Movies and M tv pack. There is no HD on the standard V-Box, only V-HD and V+

Thanks for the reply. I can't say that that the extra channels offered over Freesat are of much interest, but TV and movies on-demand might be - and I guess the latter is where Virgin might take in some extra money.

The idea will be that once you see how good VOD is, that you may increase your subs in the future... will be good if you have a fault with either Freesat or VM as you will have a back up tv service. :)

The same was offered to me about 10 months ago, I thought there may be a catch but as Digital Fanatic states it is totally free although I had to install my own box and cable which was included in the kit.

Having the catch up TV and backup freeview facility does come in handy. They say its free for life...........
