web page size?

If im making a website, ideally what should i set the width to without causing problems in different browsers? IE; 800 or 1200?

The website i want to create needs to be full screen really, im not into these websites with borders.

do i set it to 100% ?

any help appreciated

100% is fine but remember that the content layout also has to be dynamic.. Also remember that mobile internet (either via phones or netbooks) is becoming more and more common so you also have to think about that and the limitations in their screen size ;)
