Cynthia Lynch? Appropriate.
Sirius, are you referring to the murdered recruit or the murderer? |
Re: Ku Klux Klan Leader Jailed for life
Hmm....one would have expected the death penalty. I wonder why he was not sentenced to death? If this had been a Black man killing a white woman, would he have been executed?

Re: Ku Klux Klan Leader Jailed for life
Not really, Louisiana only has 84 inmates on death row, and the number of actual executions are quite low.
Now, unless you believe the state has only had 84 murders... |
Re: Ku Klux Klan Leader Jailed for life
But fifty-four of them are Black. I would hazard a guess (although I have no knowledge of this) that this is not proportional to the racial ratio of murderers in the state.

Re: Ku Klux Klan Leader Jailed for life
Well, find out what their crimes were to warrant the DP, and compare it to the crimes comitted by the rest of the lifers.
Louisiana has a high ex-slave population, which tends to be at the lower end of the social scale, leading to high involvement with hard drugs and gangs, therefore multiple murders rather than just a single kill. Which of the following are you suggesting? 1. There are more blacks on DR because the Louisiana judicial system is racist. 2. There are more blacks on DR because more blacks are exposed to situations resulting in justified DR sentences. 3. Blacks shouldn't be put on DR. |

i actually find myself agreeing with Flyboy on this (pause to take tablets;)) given that it was in Luisiana and given the past ,shall we say "errors in the justice system" between blacks and whites in the deep south ,i think the sentance should have been death and it probably would have been anywhere else ,maybe the apology to the family helped  |

Furthermore, as of October 2002, 12 people have been executed where the defendant was white and the murder victim black, compared with 178 black defendants executed for murders with white victims. The results of their study proved that the odds of receiving the death penalty in Philadelphia increased by 38% when the accused was black. University of Iowa law professor David Baldus found that during the 1980s prosecutors in Georgia sought the death penalty for 70 % of black defendants with white victims, but for only 15% of white defendants with black victims. http://www.aclu.org/capital-punishme...-death-penalty http://lagriffedulion.f2s.com/DP.htm |
