Malcolm X gunman released on parole after 45 years

Quote:

The only man to have admitted his role in the killing of controversial US black leader Malcolm X has been released from prison on parole.
Thomas Hagan, 69, was released from a New York jail 45 years after the assassination, officials confirmed.
Hagan said he was one of three men who shot Malcolm X as he began a speech at Harlem's Audubon Ballroom in 1965.

Hasn't he been on parole for the last 22 years?

No

He has been on work release for more than two decades, but he still spends two days a week locked up at the Lincoln Correctional Facility on West 110th Street in Manhattan.
On March 3, however, on his 17th try, Mr. Hagan was granted parole

that's 5 days out of 7 of not being locked up.

sounds like parole to me.

It may sound like it to you, but it isn't - it's called work release.

If he was on parole, he would be out of prison 7 days of the week, not 5.

Anyone with a modicum of intelligence would have realised he worked through the day.
