80+ dead according to the bbc site, other sites are confirming he is amongst the dead but a lot of the main sites are not confirming it yet

Some very dear Polish friends of ours have only just returned home for a holiday. I'm sure they'll be deeply saddened by this awful tragedy.

seems that a lot of the polish ruling body were on the plain along with the central bank govenor and the head of the polish armed forces

Of course events like these are happily very rare but I dare say there'll be measures taken to ensure that so many government, military and other high profile figures don't travel on planes together. Let's hope that no serious unrest or instability arsies in that part of the world due to this event.

I would have thought such measures were in place in every country. Otherwise, one or two terrorist bombs could take out the entire government.

Well it appears that a lot of top people have been lost in this incident so I would have thought whatever measures were in place are likely to be reviewed with the accent on caution. I'd like to thinkt the smae happened as a result of the Chinook crash a few years back which wiped out a large section of the UK's senior security personnel.
