Cisco 1811 Router not picking up an address

Morning Guys,

We have a remote user client who uses VM cable and we've issued him a 1811 to connect to the VM modem.

I have configred the f1 interface to get the ip address via DHCP
"ip address dhcp"

The interface is UP/UP however the interface is not getting an IP from the modem. However when we plug a workstation directly into the modem we get an ip address. Should we be getting a private or public ip address? (I was physcailyl not at the site)

Advance thanks

The modem may need to be powercycled before it will issue an ip to the router.
