Mysterious cookie won't go away

Since yesterday, I'm getting a cookie from advanced-web-analytics.com but despite deleting it and adding it to my Firefox (3.6.2) exceptions list, it keeps coming back. I don't need to browse anywhere to pick up this cookie, it appears as soon as I've fired up Firefox. I've also noticed that the cookie expiry date/time is the same as the date/time that I fire up Firefox.

What's going on, anyone else getting this?

Regards .....

After doing a bit of Googling, I think I've found the cause and solution here. My problem started after installing the Rapport software yesterday. What about you?

This is part of a security program called Trusteer Rapport(Your bank may have recommended you install it). If you Stop Trusteer Rapport and then remove the cookie and relaunch firefox you'll notice that the cookie will be gone and wont start with Firefox. If you start Trusteer Rapport again and then launch Firefox again you'll notice the cookie is back and will keep starting each time you luanch Firefox as you've said.

Ah beat me to it. You dont have to remove Trusteer though as the link says you just have to stop it. I've tried as I also have Trusteer Rapport installed.

Just remember that a cookie isn;t always from a web browser ;) There's a few related to software and mainly used to tell an online site that you do have certain software installed without the need for an activeX or similar plugin

Not being to savvy on how security programmes work I checked out for any adverse reports about Rapport before installing it a well over a year ago. Finding only this explanation and encouraging reviews and I installed it.
Quote:

Trusteer Rapport locks down your browser once you connect to a sensitive website such as your bank. Any malicious software that tries to ride on the browser is left out of the locked down browser, and cannot access your sensitive information and transactions. Rapport also locks down communication between your browser and the bank, preventing any network-based attack from diverting traffic to fraudulent locations.

Although Rapport was first brought to my attention by NatWest I now use it for any site where I have sensitive or monetary information.

Thanks joglynne, i`m gonna look into it a bit further as it looks a reasonable tool, different to stuff like WOT, Finjan and AVG linkscanner.
