.htaccess on VM webspace?

I have a website i have created to share family photo's and video clips with the rest of my family - Ideally I don't really want "the whole world" to be able to access these.

Can you tell me if my virgin media webspace can/will support .htaccess or am I looking at private hosting elsewhere?

in fact if anyone can help me with password protecting my set then that would be good.

Thanks in advance.

I think the line at the top still applies

Note: This currently only applies to those users who are xTeleWest/Blueyonder customers. As far as I know, xNTL users webspace does not allow the use of .htaccess directives.
No doubt someone 'in the know' will be along to confirm ;)

Thanks for the link. i did actually find that page and it appears i am in an ex NTL area (south coast).

I have just spoken to 151 (technical support) got thru to an indian call centre who asked me what my problem was to which i said i am after some information regarding my webspace - after being put on hold for about 3 mins the agent came back to me to say that VM were having problems, their engineers were working on it and it would be ressolved in 24hrs. When i challenged this and said I didn't even have a problem with my service, i am just after some technical information, she hung up on me :td:

If the above does apply to me - what are my other options (if any) to password protect my site?

You could always just give your family a link to a page that no one knows about and that has no links to it from your hoe page.
