How to link to 3G rather than GPRS?
I got a 3G phone for myself. It is a HTC Diamond (T-Mobile MDA Compact IV). I set up mobile web according the Virgin website. It works. But I noticed it always connect to GPRS (with icon G) rather than 3G (with icon 3G). There was only a very moment the '3G' icon pop-up. Obviously, speed is too low.
Anyone can tell how to set up 3G as prefered connection? Thanks! |
Re: How to link to 3G rather than GPRS?
There will be an option under the phone settings, something like 'band control' (That's what it's call on my 3g phone). It usually has three options - Auto, GSM or UMTS.
GSM is the 2G signal and gives GPRS UMTS is 3G Auto picks UMTS is the signal is good enough and GSM otherwise. Personally I have my VF phone set to GSM as it saves battery and gives a much better phone signal. If 3G browsing is more important to you, set it to UMTS but your phone will probably have a weaker signal and drain the battery quicker. |

Could also be down to the phone not getting a strong enough 3G signal therefore stepping down 2G.

Found it, band control. It has AUTO/GSM/WCDMA. I select WCDMA. The phone signal went to dead. :(
I need a T-mobile mast at my back garden..... |
