Wireless N Adaptors Speed?

I am running a D link N Router and have a Netgear Wireless N Adaptor running.

I only have 54mbps speed but surley it should be a lot higher?

Thanks in advance

2 things jump to mind immediately.

1. Has your lappy or PC got a pre-existing wireless facility? If so you may be connected with that rather than your N adaptor.

2. Your router will have a set up wizard or some way to configure wireless output. Check that you haven't got it configured for legacy wireless. Make sure the wireless is configured to the max connection speed. eg. 300Mbs

If I think of anything else I'll add it on.

I would suggest switching to AES encryption on the router then disconnecting and reconnecting on your wireless device.

Agreed because that is what the Netgear adaptor requires.
