Crunch Crackle Noise when recording 2 programmes at once

My V+ is beginning to get rather noisy, the hard drive makes crackly noises when recording, more noticeably so when I have two programmes recording at once. Also, recently, sometimes when opening the V+ menu, the channel will change or the box will become unresponsive and the only way to fix it is to press the reset button. I have tried re-formatting the Set Top Box but that didn't cure it. Is there anything I can do to sort it out or is it looking like a phone call to Virgin?

Ben :)

I would call support as it sounds like the is an issue, if they send an engineer out ensure that you have watched everything you need to in case it gets swapped.

Yeah, sounds like the HDD is on it's way out... how long have you had the box, Ben?

Not very old then! Does sound like it's the HDD from what you are saying... call 151 or Newsgroups! :)

Every time it flicks the hard drive on when it's in Standby there is a thing in the log for 'Access Notification Received'

Had TV Drive from launch (as soon as staff could have them!) that developed a card reader fault and was swapped out about 18 months ago for a SA V+ branded box... had no probs with this one at all.

Is it an SA V+? Maybe you'll get a Samsung! :)

Yeah it's an SA, it's been fine until recently, but should it generate heat when in Standby?

Yeah a little... just checked mine and it's not been on today (in standy mode currently)... it's warm to touch. Theres not much difference in power consumption between standy and on.

They always generate heat thats why the are so many vents on them and you should never ever put anything next to or on top of them.
