D-link dir-615 router conundrum

I recently upgraded to Virgin's XL broadband was sent a new modem and router.

I changed the modem first and all was well.

Then I swapped my old Netgear router for the new one. And that's when my problems started.

Setting up the router with was fine. I used the same SSID and security as with the old router, to avoid changing all the wireless devices in the house.

There's an ethernet link to my desktop PC which is working fine.

The wireless bridge I use for the Xbox connected up with no problems.

The Wii connected with no problems.

My son's iPOD touch connected with no problems.

What will not connect is my laptop. The Netgear wireless card just won't connect to the router. I've tried swapping with a linksys wireless adaptor that I have. Same result.

When I use the wireless bridge from the Xbox with the laptop, it connects to the router just fine - so it obviously isn't the laptop itself.

No doubt I am missing something obvious and will be kicking myself when I realise what it is. Nevertheless, all suggestions as to why the laptop isn't connecting up will be gratefully received.

I am not sure as to your answer, I'm sure somebody will here, Great people!

What I would like to know about this router is if the Ethernet ports support Gigabit.

my computer has gigabit and I have it liked to the router via a Cat5e cable and I'm only getting 100Mbps so I'm uncertain.

It says in the config of the router that there is some gigabit support but I'm not sure that is only for the port where the modem is plugged in to it.

The answer is no, as per its' specs. It has no GigE ports.

have you checked what ip's are being assigned by the router sometimes the router will assign 2 the same when using a bridged connection preventing one machine connecting

I read somewhere that later revisions of the router do. if it didn't have Gigabit why would the config have this?

Could mean nothing though, just wondering.

Just the software being for multiple platforms or someone copy/pasting code I am thinking - nothing indicates the D2 revision has GigE.

Thanks - I'll have a look at the logs and report back.

Progress!

I decided to see if the Linksys wireless-G USB adaptor would show up in the logs. So I removed the Netgear WG11T software (again) and installed the linksys (again).

And it's only gone and connected up first time.

Not as convenient as the Netgear card but it'll do
