Happy Daily Heil Day

Today is the 76th anniversary of the Daily Mail's proud edition headlined 'Hurrah For The Blackshirts!' in which Lord Rothermere wrote that the British Union of Fascists was...

Quote:

"a well organised party of the right ready to take over responsibility for national affairs with the same directness of purpose and energy of method as Hitler and Mussolini have displayed"
In true Mail fashion, it's nice to know that tens of thousands of dead black people isn't considered important enough for the front page...

I'm so tempted to make a really bad taste joke about the mental faculties of the average Mail reader having something to do with their choice of splash this morning ... but as our own family has been touched by Alzheimers I won't go there. ;)

The Wail really does seem to be utterly divorced from reality though.

Meh, they fill a market else they wouldn't be publishing still. 'Racist in public so you don't have to be'. They make the occasional good point but are best left alone though. No real point in complaining about a newspaper you don't read and have no intention of reading just gives them attention.

Certain members of my family get it delivered, unfortunately, so I'm exposed to its bile whenever I go round their house. Mind you, Melanie Phillips can be an amusing diversion at times.

Does anyone know which papers still have proper foreign correspondents? I wondered about this before. I think The Times still does. Not sure about the Guardian or The Telegraph. I think the Guardian still has a few but I imagine they are freelancers. Actually thinking about it I wonder if the Times actually just uses it's staff from sister organizations like the Wall Street Journal.

well i dont read it, never have but i have noticed that some members quote the mail/fail/heil ect quite alot to deride them for printing any and all stories or non-stories about muslims in general so i thought i'd take a peak at the mail online and guess what you're all correct, true to the said form a major piece here
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...niversity.html

i suspect without any evidence that this type of story is common ?

To be fair to the Daily Heil (someone has to be), that story is being widely reported today. The Times has gone big on it also.

The Times hasn't mentioned the supposed "grooming" of the Israel terrorists (I think they employ fact-checkers).

It's not like there aren't papers that administer their news with a good dose of left-wing propaganda either though being fair. People will read and believe what they want to.

LOL! I shall become a sheep and follow your lead shall I?

Just because it doesn't sit with your views doesn't mean to say its a bad paper.

Yes but just because a paper agrees with your views doesn't make it a good paper either. The Mail is very right wing and very biased. You may like that but it's not as if it challenges your perceptions, and it's reporting is colored by that. The truth may be x but because it doesn't fit it won't be reported.

Just like Liberals shouldn't read the Independent or the Huffington Post if they are remotely concerned with a balanced view of events.

I think you missed 'The Guardian' between Independent and Huffington Post.;)

I just went for the main examples. The Guardian isn't as strong in it's bias as the Mail or Independent/Huffington post.
