A 7.0-magnitude quake which hit south of the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince is feared to have killed hundreds of people across the Caribbean country.
One picture really does show how bad it was

It sounds really bad out there. I hope the UK helpers sent out there stay safe.

Lancashire firefighters are flying out to the earthquake-hit country of Haiti to help in a massive search and rescue mission.
Eight firefighters from the region plus eight from Greater Manchester were flying out on Thursday just hours after the devastating earthquake struck

Can't believe that there have been so few replies on this thread.

It's awful. Heard today that at least tens of thousands of people are dead. Maybe raising as higher or higher than 100,000. People are still trapped under buildings, they lack the machines to lift the rubble and do that they can with their hands.

One man with tears in his eyes pointed to his young daughter lying on the dirty tiled floor.

She has two broken legs and a large gash in her head. Her sister is already dead.

"Ca va?" her father asks. "Oui," she replies softly - but she is not okay.
:( and there is nothing we can realistically do

Yes, there is. Go to Disasters Emergency Committee and donate. If you want to do something to help, give them some money. You personally can't help, but the money will get through to people who can help them. :)

If we do all we can, then who knows, maybe it can accomplish something

Re: Haiti Earthquake

Problem is not much aid can get through yet because of blocked roads etc, people are getting desperate & resorting to desperate measures, there have already been attempts to hi-jack aid trucks. There wasn't much in the way of law & order before the earthquake struck!

Re: Haiti Earthquake

Anarchy seems to be appearing as living victims demand instant help... bodies piled high used as road blocks to allow them to raid aid trucks I heard earlier.... looting in many areas (I don't really blame them if they're after food, water and shelter)... outlying townspeople getting very upset thinking only the capital is going to get aid...

This could get nastier day by day....

Re: Haiti Earthquake

The hard thing is that it will take time for the aid to get to the airports.

They have then got to load the plane in a careful order to maintain balance.

Its then got to fly there.

Unloaded, distributed.

All will take time, which alot of victims don't have
