EPG Incorrect

What is the point in providing an EPG if it's not up-to-date and correct?

Example:
Trying to record today's Scottish Cup game between Hamilton & Rangers. The channel wasn't even correct. It was on Sky Sports 1, not 2.

Even right now there's Live Football League on SS1 but the EPG lists "Sky Sports Classics"

:dozey:

It was a very late change due to cancellations of matches.. too late for us to update the EPG...sorry.

Ever thought it's the television channel or the scheduling fault rather than the service provider?

It was too late for us to update... can't speak for Sky, obviously. :)

To be fair it's their own channel ;)

What's the cut off time for EPG changes out of curiosity?

10 days before broadcast, if there a change that made at the last minute then it the channel who are at fault if people do not get the right listings.

Only expection ot the rule is things like princess diana death, freak weather etc

That long? I would have thought about 24 hours...but clearly I don't know how much needs to be done behind the scenes to get this to out screen :)

VM can change things a few hours before, but we don't like making the changes in peak viewing time. especially weekends.

The freak weather has caused alot of last minute changes in sporting events lately.

I missed the Hamilton/Rangers game for the same reason. Had been out with my youngest and got back in 10 mins after kick off. I switched onto SS2 and it was showing the Premiership years so I wrongly assumed it was a filler prog because the game had been postponed. A simple channel hop would have let me watch what turned out to be quite a good game. :dunce:

Why? Isn't it better that the EPG is accurate, regardless of how late the change is made? Who benefits if you don't make the changes? Can planned recordings on the V+ cope with channel and time changes?

Not having a go, just asking!

Or is it that the updating locks up the box and infuriates customers (as happens to me around midnight if I am attempting to use the V+ controls)?

For live sport of uncertain duration I now always do a manual record with plenty of padding at the end, but of course this doesn't help if the channel chages at the last minute.
