Free router for existing customers

I wasn't sure where exactly to post this, but it is about routers and networking so I've posted it here.

We currently have the virgin media VIP package (which includes XL Broadband) and I saw on the virgin media website that XL customers get a free wireless n router. Would we be able to get this as an existing customer or is it for new customers only.

Only if you upgrade which in your case would be to 50Mb.

Thanks. Has anyone tried speaking to virgin and asking if they could get the router without upgrading?
