External network card
Hi,
I have this motherboard PCI-Express Mainboard - SLI nForce 650i SLI(C55) - Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad-Core - ATX It only has 2 pci slots and i have my x-fi gamer soundcard and netgear wireless card in these slots. I am with V/M on 20meg and use the WNR2000 router . After many tests I would like to install a network card but do not have any more slots so a External network card is my only option , will this effect my speed ?. Please any advice. Gary. |
Re: External network card
That board has ports built in, surely?
|
Re: External network card
It does have a port , but the speeds are so poor when I connect direct to router. If I go wireless the speeds are so much better 13 --16 meg.

You might a a USB to ethernet one?

Re: External network card
I use a belkin USB jobbie for machines that need Ethernet drivers after a clean install. Very handy

Surley you'd get more speed of of a wired than a standard wireless anyday! |
Re: External network card
The speeds I get wired direct to router are around 8-9Mb/s.
Yes tried all 4 slots still the same. O/S is vista. |
Re: External network card
It's possible that the network port on the PC is broke, but more likely that for some reason it is only operating at 10mbps speeds rather than 100mbps. If you have a look at the network port's properties it may tell you, or give you a setting to change the speed negotiation (look for things like duplex).
Have you really tried checking all the drivers (don't rely on Vista having found the right ones, check with the board manufaturer), delete the existing drivers before installing the new ones. If you haven't done so, make sure you've installed any motherboard (chipset) drivers from the manufacturer first as in some cases other drivers don't take properly. |
