Wireless relay,
Hi all,
Hopefully you can help, i have a Netgear 108Mbps router and have just had my broadband upgraded to 50 meg where they have provisioned a new dlink n router, What i was wondering is can i have the Netgear as a wireless repeater in a different location in the house, The wireless machines are not running at 108 as i have kept them on standard wireless lan cards built into the laptop so the family do not hammer the connection all the time, i am expecting someone to tell me both routers need to be the same brand and i will have to sell the netgear to continue and purchase a new dlink. If anyone has any sites or information on this it would be much appreciated, if you have done this or have any thoughts it would be great to hear them or read them should i say, Cheers all and Happy New Year.... |
Re: Wireless relay,
You could use a wired link from one router to the other (Just turn off DHCP on the 2nd router and put the IP's on the laptops/wifi devices on Static. Then all the netgear will be doing is being used as a HUB/WAP
Although the G+ devices will then connect to the netgear OK at 108Mbps they will probably only connect to the Dlink at G (54Mbps) |
Re: Wireless relay,
I forgot to add that if you do use the netgear as a wired repeater as described above do NOT use the WAN port but instead plug the cable from one of the DLinks LAN ports to one of the Netgears LAN ports
