Emergency weather warning in place (snow)

Emergency weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for large parts of central and southern England.

Up to 20cm (8in) of snow fell in parts of Scotland and northern England on Tuesday causing travel chaos for millions of people.

Another 40cm (16in) has been forecast in some areas as the freezing weather moves from north to south.

More fell overnight and commuters and parents face a difficult journey to work and school on Wednesday.

The Met Office said Dorset, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire could see "exceptionally heavy" snow.

Hundreds of schools also had to be closed as the UK entered the grip of its longest cold snap for almost 30 years.
They even closed Gatwick airport, jeesh

Take care everyone and drive safely.

Nobody here on our hill will be going far thanks to a pair of morons who pulled up in a pick-up truck earlier, emptied the grit bin and drove off. Judging by the amount of it in the back of their truck they'd obviously done it elsewhere too. Selfish £$%&*$*

Sadly not - I just happened to look out of the window as they'd finished loading and drove off. I've since been in touch with the council but they can't say when we can expect anymore salt...

This situation is exposing a potentially worrying conflict between the stringent health and safety regulations as applicable to employees and the welfare of the general public. Nobody wants to put anyone in harm's way unnecessarily but do we run the risk that the strict application of H&E rules in severe conditions like these potentially does more harm than good?
