How do I get HD from my V+
 

Hi Everyone,
I have the "Full Monty" as far as Virgin goes but i cannot for the life of me get the HD channels to function, unless they are but I can't tell! I'm pretty sure they are not though because the difference is quite apparent. I have followed the instructions in the V+ user guide and the instructions in my Sony Bravia HD Ready TV but to no avail, can anybody help with a step by step instruction?

Two questions:

1) Is your TV connected to the V+ by an HDMI cable?
2) Have you changed the settings on the V+ to output via HDMI?

If the answer to both these is YES then you will be receiving the HD channels in HD.

If the answer to either of these is NO then you are not HD-capable.

If I gave you step-by-step instructions they would only be the same as in the V+ user guide, so just follow those. The bit most people get wrong is not pressing the Text button on the V+ remote at the right time.

But if you are watching the HD channels without the V+ giving you a warning message about watching HD channels in SD mode, you have already switched correctly. In that case the only possibility is you haven't selected the right input on the TV and you are still using SCART. To check this, unplug the SCART cable and see if you lose the picture.

Remember the HD channels don't broadcast HD all the time. Some programmes are upscaled SD, and the picture quality won't be as good on these.

While I can understand why they do this (a lot of content isn't available in HD to the companies), it sometimes seems a bit of a cheat. You wouldn't buy a brand new CD player and expect the record companies to start issuing CDs made from cassettes. You expect the full CD quality, or a disclaimer that the quality may not be all that good (I know CDs are created from the master tapes, but even where these are not good quality, there is often a disclaimer on the CD).
